One of the most powerful moments Adele’s new concert film comes when she performs Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” as a tribute to Amy Winehouse, encouraging the audience to raise their phones and cameras so that the late singer can see them “from upstairs.”

Florence + the Machine performed in BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge earlier and treated the listeners and audience on a cover of Drake’s Jamie xx-procuded Take Care.

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs covers Willie Nelson’s “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys” for Chipotle. Good cover and video along with a worthy cause.

Queen of Hearts - Spanish Sahara (Foals Cover)

Electropop cover of a Foals song (“Spanish Sahara”, which I ended up very much liking). Like all interesting covers it illuminates something about the song, not necessarily to Queen Of Hearts’ advantage in this case. Her placid, one-paced treatment works very well for the first half of the song (the “spanish sahara, place you’d wanna” bits) but when the tone switches from refectiveness to venom (the “choir of furies” part) her version leaves the lyrics dreadfully exposed. OK, you might say, Foals shouldn’t be writing such gothy lyrics, but while awfully overwrought on paper the words work very well in the context of shoegazey guitar overdrive. This version puts an unfortunate spotlight on them and - guess what - freed from their musical context they’re gauche. But Foals are twentysomething indie boys so it’s not like we couldn’t have guessed! Anyway I quite like this but it’s not as good as the original.

Woodkid - Someone Like You (Adele Cover)

Woodkid was kinda bored today so he quickly recorded a cover of Adele’s Someone Like You on the piano in his livingroom. Hooray for boredom and piano’s in livingrooms!

Little Dragon do their awesome rendition of the “club classic” (which then segues beautifully into another classic “Show Me Love”) live at BBC Radio 1’s dance weekend in Ibiza.

Bill Coleman | Runaway (Kanye West cover)

The first time I heard about Bill was on the Strummerville DIY website, Joe Strummer’s foundation for new and emerging artists. Later, I saw that he was also active on SoundCloud and this cover of Kanye’s Runaway popped up on my Dashboard yesterday.

Love when singer/songwriters take on a track that is outside of their usual playground.
